The Suffering of a Biologist

Favorite track: The frustration of living in an era of unwarranted skepticism towards science.

Johan I'm a big fan of Escaping Agartha since his album "Oceanic Womb", and I'm looking forward for a nice physical selection once his newest masterpiece is out. A "Surprise EP" like The Suffering means for me, that this incredible artist had the urgent feeling to put his emotions into a piece (two, in fact) of music. And that's exactly what I hear here. The Suffering is sad, of course technically well done, and foremost: true & authentic. And with a message that couldn't be of more importance. Favorite track: The agony of watching that which I love most be desecrated and razed.

about

Surprise EP release.

The Suffering of a Biologist is a highly personal EP about my experience as a biologist in this rapidly declining world. When your career is related to the conservation of the natural world, it is impossible to remain ignorant of the extent of anthropogenic impacts - nor do I wish to. But the knowledge weighs on me heavily. It shapes every aspect of my life.

Climate change and the ongoing sixth extinction are two of the most worrying anthropogenic impacts, as the impacts are being felt everywhere across the world - even now. We're seeing mass die-offs of coral reefs and amphibians happening right now. We're also witnessing unnaturally strong storms and extremely unusual weather that is being fueled by climate change.

Humanity cannot sit idle in the face of the threats we currently face. To remain ignorant of the reality of our situation, or worse, to deny it, condemns future generations to a harsh and difficult world to live in. If we fail to act in this critical time, and do not manage to keep to keep our world from warming 3 degrees Celsius, humanity and the biological world will suffer extreme consequences.

We need to act.
