Chytrid
09:24
|
|||
Chytrid fungus
Persistent and pervasive
No corner of our world
Remains uninvaded
Global connection fuels plagues
Once Pandora’s box is open hope is lost…
As a biologist I’ve seen the trends, data, the facts
Tears flow from my heart. To care is to grieve
Outlooks worsen becoming grim
Frogs flow down the stream. Bloated and dead.
Our legacy shall be
Our fetid scar
Of wastes
Of extinction
We need to change…
Chytrid destroys
Frog skin function
And makes it unable
To balance electrolytes
Cardiac arrest
soon follows the degradation
Of ion channels
(Sodium and potassium)
Writhing in pain
Hearts wrung by palpitations
Amphibians pass away
Populations starting to fade
Zoospores
burn their way
Into the flesh
Proteases
Increase
Sloughing of skin
Spreading and killing
Frog health failing
Rheobatrachus silus
Taudactylus diurnus
Anaxyrus baxteri
Atelopus longirostris
Atelopus ignescens
Rheobatrachus vitellinus
Isthmohyla debilis
Incilius fastidious
Incilius holdridgei
Are all fucking dead

Consuming Drought
08:43
|
|||
Burning, building, plowing, clearing
Forests destroys water cycles
Invites consuming drought
Drying our forests out
Ecosystems destabilized
We’re fucking ourselves - open your eyes!
Wildfires blaze
Scathing worse each year
Landscapes razed
Ashen wastes remain
Frogs have evolved response to fire
Burrows under the ground shelter
From flames from fumes from heat from hell
But we humans alter fires
Preventing the normal rhythms
Feeding giant forest fires
How can we hydrate this drying world?
Permaculture is the key to biodiversity
Cease palm oil plantations
Cease buying products which contain palm oil
Halt eating cows raised in Brazil
And, simply, start planting trees
We have the means to create real change
Do we have the will?
Each fucking one of us has a duty
To reverse this consuming drought we have made

Croak
12:25
|
|||
The ephemerality of life makes every moment a gift
Fragile and precious, our one planet is finite and unique
How fucked must our world become before we value life and health more than fucking money?
From global warming...to forest felling... this is alarming.
Heed now, my warning:
Dire future looms ahead unless change occurs in the:
- Behavior of ourselves and our leaders
- Consumers and producers
- Cultures and world views
We share crushing burden of living through the Anthropocene.
What will the extinction toll be?
The scientific data is clear - humanity is responsible for climate change and the Anthropocene - the sixth mass extinction in the history of earth. The situation is spiraling out of control at an exponential rate. Yet some people deny factual data and cling to conspiracies instead. As a scientist, I will tell you this - these problems are immediate and demand a response. Frequent wildfires, flooding, famine, pandemics, and wars fought over resources await humanity if we fail to act.
Perpetual decline into extinction
Happening before our eyes with frogs and toads
They’re among the first victims - more are to come
Vigor, vitality...ashen mortality
Action is urgent - we can’t waste single moment
Coral reefs bleach. Glacier ice melts into the sea.
When will life croak?
